Membership                                                                  
Forum for Social Studies (FSS) was formally established in 1998 and received its certificate of registration from the Ministry of Justice in March of that year. FSS is an independent center for policy research and dialogue and that engages in publishing and creation of awareness of policy and development-related issues in Ethiopia.

FSS is a membership organization democratically governed. Its governance structure consists of the General Assembly of all its members, the Executive Board, and the Management Committee, which is the executive body of the organization. Its members are drawn from a wide diversity of professions and from different walks of life.

Membership of FSS is open to all Ethiopian and non Ethiopians, within and outside the country, who have a minimum of a first degree and who subscribe to and promote the objectives of FSS.

Application procedure

1. Candidates have to fill in an application form and get the endorsement of two full members in order to be considered for membership. The application form and the membership nomination (endorsement) form have to be submitted to the FSS head office together with a passport size photo.

2. The FSS Executive Board examines the information in the forms, and rules on the membership application.


Benefits

The benefits of membership in FSS include:

1. getting their research outputs published by FSS provided the works are positively peer-reviewed and approved;

2. buying FSS publications at a reduced price;

3. getting to the FSS Documentation Centre;

4. participating in all meetings of the General Assembly, workshops/conferences and other major FSS events;

5. getting priority for consultancy services provided they fully meet the criteria set and the necessary requirements in each case;

6. Electing or being elected to offices of the FSS.


Responsibilities


1. Members are expected to observe the FSS statute, actively promote the Forum’s objectives, participate in its activities whenever called upon to do so and make concrete contributions to strengthen the organization.

2. Members are expected to regularly participate in the General Assembly (at their own cost);

3. Members residing in Ethiopia are expected to pay an annual membership fee of 60 birr. In addition, new members are expected to pay a registration fee of Birr 50.

4. Membership fee for those residing outside Ethiopia is 20 USD per year. Registration fee is 10 USD.
